The patent space has heated up significantly in the last few years, with a lot of patent aggression, especially from "non-practicing entities" (commonly known as "patent trolls"). Many of these patents are of bad quality: prior art exists but the patent office either did not see it (the patent office usually only examines other patents) or acknowledged it as valid prior art. To fight bad quality software patents we need the help of domain experts, like you.

In this presentation we want to talk about prior art searching and highlight what you can do to help us finding prior art to keep KDE and other free software desktops safe from patent threats.
