Workshop: Put your code to the test!
Unit testing and more
This talk is about the art of writing good unit tests and the tools and principles that will help you. From simple tests cases, to stubs/mocks, I will share some real world examples from code I have written while contributing to KDE.
Writing software is fun. After starting with your project, you will inevitably add new features and fix bugs. But, you will also face times when you ask yourself - Will this new feature break something else? Is this really the right fix for this bug? Sometimes this is subtle, but quite often it can be a nightmare if you are managing something complex.
So what do you do? You write self-testing code. Imagine a magical button you press that makes your code test itself and reports its correctness. Sounds like magic? Well, its not, but using some simple tools and principles, you can easily do it.
