Version 1

Technicaltalk: Rebuilding Plasma

How Plasma 5 Came to be

Event_large

The next version of the popular Plasma workspaces has been released, and there's a multitude of improvements to be found. The underlying graphics stack is a completely different one, everything has been lifted from Qt4 to Qt5, the UI has now finished its migration to purely QML-based user interfaces, the newly formed Visual Design Group is making an impact on visuals, and many of the well-known pieces that make up the Plasma UIs have been revamped and improved. On top of that, the newly developed generic Plasma "shell" allows to load different user interfaces and interaction paradigms for a given target device and even switches between those at runtime. The truly converged workspaces have arrived, and this is just the beginning!

In his talk, Sebastian shows concepts common to the new version of the Plasma workspaces, shows new and improved features and will give background information on the technicalities and the development of it. The talk addresses a "mildly technical" audience, you don't need to be a hardcore developer to understand, and there's ample information and material for people unknown to the privates parts in Plasma.
