Version 1
Technicaltalk: Agile to the Rescue
Is Free Software in need of Agile and Craftsmanship?
In this talk we'll take a critical look at Free and Open Source Software
(FOSS). Indeed it comes with its own set of shortcomings and if we want
to make any progress to spread it further they propably need to be
addressed and not ignored.
FOSS is not the panacea that we sometime think it is. It comes with great
characteristics and we vocally advocate them. But are we advocating the right
things? Do we then deliver on all the promises we make in our advocacy?
Probably not. That's why we will start this talk by looking at our failed
promises, coming from the advocacy angle. Next we will list what we really
deliver on as we are also doing some things right, we just often forget to talk
about them. Then we'll explore the cultural reasons for the shortcomings
initially identified and see what could be improved. Last but not least, we
will look at practices from other expert communities. They might just be what
we need to leap forward.
