Version 1
Technicaltalk: The Designer and its habits
A field guide
An introduction to Designers (Homo Sapiens Dwigginsis), what they are, how to find them and how to make them happy in the form of a zoological field guide, and an idea how to integrate those into development teams.
When looking for a "Designer" (Homo Sapiens Dwigginsis) developers will often assume that they are, in fact, the same species as "The Developer" (Homo Sapiens Lovelacia) and the assumptions is that what is true for one must be applicable for the other.
During this short talk Jens will present the behaviour, attitude and life cycle of the Designer and how to attract one to your project and answer why your projects lack them - using the form method as has been made popular by David Attenburough - the popular zoological approach.
At the end of this talk the audience will have a greater understanding as to why to elusive Designer isn't attracted to certain projects and how to change that so that both the Designer and the Developer can coexist in the same habitat.
Thomas will introduce an idea for better integration of designers into development teams by assigning "resident designers" to live with specific project teams.
