: Tales of Unicorns and Cake: Open Source Non-Profit Lessons

Event_large

Starting an open source project is easy, but turning it into a business remains a challenging. Introducing money into an open source project brings complexities between volunteers, staff and projects goals and guidelines.

Navigating these spaces, from traditional ‘business models’ to uncharted open source waters can lead to peculiar and also amazing situations. Open source organizations can also expect cultural clashes working with larger companies as bottom up and top down methodologies often present some intense friction points. Robert will share some of his experiences from the past 17 years, from the serious to the ridiculous, including the story of sending Amazon a cake.
