Description
This talk will provide a brief overview of what has been going on in KEcoLab over the past year, which includes full OS migration, tooling improvements, and contributions from SoK26 student Hrishikesh Gohain. Two issues we will discuss in some detail are: (i) porting usage scenario scripts from xdotool to ydotool+kdotool; and (ii) setting up a lab machine dedicated to measuring KDE Plasma itself, which presents interesting new scripting and measurement setup challenges.

Description
KEcolab is KDE’s remote energy measurement lab for measuring energy and power consumption of software. This talk is a practical update on where the lab stands today. Over the past year, we moved the lab to a new KDAB office and migrated from Kubuntu on X11 to Fedora 43 on Wayland. That migration required porting our Okular measurement scripts from xdotool to ydotool+kdotool (work done by our SoK26 student Hrishikesh Gohain). Also, we are in the process of setting up an additional lab machine specifically for KDE Plasma measurement testing, as the challenges for measuring a Desktop Environment itself are quite different from applications.
Biography
KEcoLab maintainer Karanjot Singh is a Computing Engineer at CERN and a contributor to KDE Eco since its start. Aakarsh MJ is a Master’s student at the University of Marburg and a co-maintainer of KEcoLab. Hrishikesh Gohain is a third year undergraduate student in Computer Science & Engineering from India and KEcoLab’s Season of KDE 2026 mentee. Joseph P. De Veaugh-Geiss is community manager for KDE Eco.
